Top Tips For Buying A New Bed

We’ve already discussed what to look for when buying a new mattress, but what about when you’re starting from scratch? Whether you’re buying a new house, redecorating or simply looking for a change, we can advise you on the best way to go about your new purchase!

1. Decide your priorities in advance. Are you on a tight budget or able to splash out on something extravagant? Do you want something with ample storage options or more a classic option? You also have to decide on the type of mattress – do you have any health issues that might limit your search? A medium-firm mattress is recommended for those with chronic back pain for example, a fact that is often overlooked by customers when choosing their product. Be sure to buy a new bed with the correct support for your weight and build.

2. Make sure the bed reflects the ethos of the room, and most importantly your style. Here at The English Bed Company we have a wide range of styles to suit any room, from beds on legs with underneath storage to beds with an ottoman base, making refurnishing much more versatile. Try out a selection of different options before you make a final decision – 80% of shoppers generally spend less than two minutes testing out the beds in the showroom. In order to get a good feel for the product, spend at least ten minutes lying in different positions before you form a firm opinion. Try and wear loose comfortable clothing for a realistic measure of comfort and test out different sides as well as adopting your usual sleeping position. When refurnishing your home, you have to certain you pick the right furniture for you and your needs.

3. Before you leave the house, measure up your bedroom space properly so you know what you are working with. If possible, request some fabric samples in advance so you have an idea of what colours match the space best, and then decide on your new style. If you are buying a bed together, make sure your sleeping partner is available to come to the showroom with you  – what is comfortable for you might not be your partner’s first choice and vice versa. Larger beds such as the super king size and emperor options are generally more comfortable, and the luxury of additional space makes you both less likely to disturb each other during the night.

 4. Final tip: ask the right questions. Be sure to compare warranties and guarantees, delivery costs and assembly features before deciding on the right service for you. Does the bed arrive assembled already or is this something you would have to do yourself? How about the price of delivery? Be sure to account for these factors in order to find the best deal out there! When buying a new bed you must  have all the answers you need!
